Easy Guide to Present Perfect in Spanish

The present perfect tense in Spanish is a compound tense. In other words, you need to verbs to create the Spanish perfect tense! Simple tenses are Spanish tenses that only use one verb! Spanish in Atlanta covers other critical grammatical concepts in this blog!

Present Perfect Tense Spanish Formula:

HABER + any verb+ remove 2 last letters of verb + add ADO or IDO

Ejemplos con el Verbo Haber:

YO HE HABLADO CON LISA.
ELLOS HAN VIAJADO A MEXICO.
ELLA HA VISITADO A SU FAMILIA.
NOSOTROS HEMOS ESTUDIADO ESPAÑOL
YO HE BEBIDO AGUA!
ELLOS HAN RECIBIDO EL DINERO.

The examples above show the formula in play! You must use HABER & you must you a 2nd verb. If it’s an AR VERB use ADO, if it’s an ER or IR verb use IDO. Study the present perfect examples above!

Spanish Verb Haber Conjugations:

This tense is called the Present perfect tense because the HABER verb is in present tense! The secondary verb had the present perfect ADO or IDO ending!

Spanish Present Perfect Usage:

It´s used to talk about an action or situation that already occurred and that is still true in the present. Spanish in Atlanta DOES NOT recommend translating Spanish words in to English as a learning tool but rare exceptions are made! This is one of them LOL.

Ejemplos: Yo he comido. VS Yo comí

Yo he comido= I have eaten
Yo comí= I ate

The first Spanish sentence is talking about an action you have completed and have done in the past and is still something that will probably happen in your present life versus the second sentence talks about the action but adds no added information about how many times it has been done in the past or if it will happen again!

I have been learning Spanish with Ms. D since January, and I must say that before taking Spanish through Preply, I noticed I wasn’t really growing or fully understanding the language. In just 4 months, I now have a much clearer understanding of conjunctions, verbs, and how to use them correctly. Im currently enrolled in Spanish Atlanta, learning Spanish was something I wanted to do for quite along time, I tried numerous learning methods but I just couldn’t grasp, I thought because I was out off school so long that me being taught was just impossible. But I decided to give it another shot as I was I was searching I stumbled across Spanish In Atlanta! I enrolled and it has been a life changing experience!! Ms. D is the greatest!!!!!! She takes her time to help you understand by not only speaking but learning to read and write!!!! Super fun instructor but doesn’t play games or babysit she makes learning extremely fun as well as challenging, If your looking to learn Spanish. Spanish in Atlanta is where you need to be. I am wrapping up Spanish 1 and signed up today for Spanish 2 today. Delilah is the best language instructor I have ever had. I have taken many kinds of classes and never had anyone explain things so clearly and simply and with such patience and humor. I need to be able to speak Spanish and I am finally getting the push and confidence to learn and practice in real life. No wonder she is the most highly rated teacher in Atlanta! Ellen

I had both group and private lessons. I am very much convinced with Ms.D’s method, and it works for me. She has a very structured curriculum of her own that helps one to learn the language from scratch, yet never forgetting the basics. I would highly recommend her classes to other adults like me who are stuck in highschool Spanish wishing to go further than Hola señor 👍

The last Spanish class I took was in college, about 15 years ago. I've definitely forgotten a lot. I decided to sign up for Spanish level I with Spanish in Atlanta as my new years resolution. I already feel more confident and hopeful with my Spanish progression. Delilah has been a great profesora. She teaches in a way to help us retain the information. I appreciate that we start off with proper pronunciations. I realized I was saying a lot of words wrong back in the day ha! Class sizes are small so you get more attention and opportunity to practice with others which is great. I plan to continue lessons with Spanish in Atlanta :)

La profesora Ortiz is an exceptional Spanish teacher whose approach is focused on true retention and real-world use, not memorization. Her method has helped me become genuinely confident speaking Spanish—especially in the U.S., where practicing can feel more intimidating than when you’re abroad. Her explanations are clear and thoughtful, and every exercise, workbook assignment, video, and homework piece builds intentionally on the last. I honestly wish she taught other languages because she’s the best foreign language teacher I’ve had. The value far exceeds the cost, and I’m very grateful I found her. She may wish I’d written this review in Spanish 😅, but if you’re serious about learning Spanish and actually using it in daily life, la profesora Ortiz is an excellent choice.

I have really enjoyed Dalilia’s method of teaching. She makes it easy to learn and remember new material. She also has been very accommodating and has personalized what she is teaching us and when to help get us up to speed quickly.

I adore my classes with Señora Delilah. They have been so helpful in helping me utilize Spanish. I’ve been somewhat practicing Spanish for a few years now and have Spanish speaking friends, but I’ve never felt comfortable speaking and using it. Delilah has been instrumental with my listening and speaking, and gives homework so I can continue practicing and honing my skills (I probably should do those more lol). My Dominican friend is commenting on my progress, and I’ll continue to use her until I get more fluent. I recommend her to all my friends and anyone else who is trying to learn Spanish!
