Spanish Conjunctions
This small list of Spanish conjunctions represents some of the most powerful Spanish connector words used in the Spanish language! These are ALL critical. Do not translate the words from Spanish to English.
It’s more important to see the formula, study the type of Spanish sentences that are used for each Spanish connector word. This will provide you with deep learning & eliminate increase your comprehension greatly!
Spanish Connector Words Entonces in Spanish:
Connector word ENTONCES is one of the most popular most helpful! Think of it as an equal sign = Study the entonces examples below!
- Yo no bebo cafe entonces no quiero un Capuccino.
- Melanie es antisocial entonces ella no tiene muchos amigos.
- Ethan tiene mucho trabajo entonces no puede ir a la fiesta.
- Aiden habla español entonces él no necesita clases de español
Entonces in Spanish is a logical progression. The 2 sentences you connect with entonces have to have a relationship. The 1st sentence ALWAYS represents the “situation” and the 2nd sentence represents the “consequence/ result” This is always the case.
That is why connector words aid in Spanish comprehension so much. Once you embrace this word equation, you will know what the message is without having to listen to it in it’s entirety!
In sentence #1 as with all sentences. We are stating what is the situation that has created the 2nd sentence. #1 says No bebo café; this is the situation that has created the outcome = no quiero un Capuccino. That’s what the connector word entonces is doing here. It is making the message obvious! Same with sentence #2 The entonces word in essence is like an equal sign meaning antisocial= no amigos
Connector Word ” Y Después:
This conjunction helps establish what is happening 1st & what is happening 2nd! Study the examples bellow:
- Yo trabajo todo el dia y después regreso casa a las 6pm.
- Ellos comen en el restaurante y después van a la tienda Target
- Nosotros visitamos a la familia y después vamos al parque Piedmont.
In each of the examples above, we see a subject doing 2 things. The connector word helps make it obvious what is first on the agenda and then what will happen later on. That is why I like calling this “the scheduler”.
Explanation sentence #1: The YO person will trabajar 1st. The 2nd action which is regresar will happen later. This is the whole point for using ” y después” to give people a snapshot of what your plans are. Spanish in Atlanta offers 1 on 1 professional tutoring. Y in Spanish is helping us not be redundant. By using Y in sentence #1 we are making our point without repeating ourselves so we don’t have to say yo hablo español y yo hablo frances.
